Kerb Appeal: Matching the Driveway to the House
Everyone asks for modern grey. Sometimes, that is a mistake. Here is how we choose the right colours and patterns to frame your house, not fight it.
The Grey Trap
Walk into any driveway showroom right now. What do you see?
Grey. Silver. Slate.
It is the trend. Everyone wants the modern, minimal look.
So they order a slate grey driveway. Then we lay it against their traditional red brick house. And it looks wrong.
It clashes. It makes the house look dated and the driveway look out of place.
Context is King
You have to look at the building.
Look at the photo above. That is a classic brick property. Instead of pouring cold grey resin, we used a warm, multi-toned block paving mix.
It pulls the reds, oranges, and browns right out of the brickwork. It ties the whole property together. It looks like it was meant to be there.
The Pattern Matters
With block paving, how you lay it is just as important as the colour.
We didn't just lay these bricks in straight lines. We used a traditional herringbone pattern.
It isn't just for looks. The interlocking design spreads the weight. It stops the bricks from shifting or sinking when you park a heavy 4x4 on the drive.
The Frame (The Border)
The driveway is the painting. The border is the frame.
We never just run the main pattern right into the wall. It looks unfinished.
Look at the edges in the photo. We used a solid charcoal border block. It creates a sharp, defined frame around the warm colours. It looks engineered.
First Impressions Count
The driveway is a third of the front of your house. It’s the first thing people see.
Stop copying the neighbours. Just because they have slate grey doesn't mean it works on your property.
Get the colours right. Frame it properly.
